Heat of the Sun now out in Picador

US paperback edition released today

Today, Picador USA released The Heat of the Sun by David Rain in paperback. The novel has previously been published in US hardcover by Henry Holt, and UK hardcover, paperback, and ebook by Atlantic Books. The novel is also available as an audiobook read by actor William Hope.

Reviews to date are archived on this site. The Irish Times had this to say: “This book is a thing of beauty … Rain is subtle and assured, a writer of unquestionable talent.” Kirkus Reviews said The Heat of the Sun is “a remarkable debut that reinvents, elaborates and extends into the late twentieth century the story Puccini made famous in Madama Butterfly” and said that “Rain is a master of this inventive, operatic and at moments harrowing debut.” Publisher’s Weekly said “[The] characters and a sense of tragedy evoke … Fitzgerald and Styron.” Feathered Quill called the book “a stellar accomplishment” and “a masterpiece of imagery, depth and range.”
